Generic Tattoo Aftercare

Every person heals tattoos differently. Every artist has their own personal suggestions on how to heal a tattoo. Ask your artist for their instructions and moreover follow your body’s response to the healing process.
Ask your artist how long to leave the bandage on for THIS tattoo.
Wash your tattoo twice daily with soap and water. Making sure to wash your hands prior to washing your tattoo. The first time you clean your tattoo after you take your bandage off, wash it thoroughly with warm water. Then rinse it with cold water for 10-15 seconds.
You may or may not choose to moisturize. If you choose to use an ointment or balm, a light amount is all that is needed. Make sure your tattoo is dried before applying. If you’re using lotion, wait at least 2 days before applying.
It is highly recommended if an animal sleeps with you, keep your tattoo covered with clean clothing. Pet dander is a common source of infection.
As your tattoo begins to heal it will itch, Do Not Scratch your tattoo. If you gently slap the area it will relieve the itch.
You don’t want to soak your tattoo until it is completely healed. This includes: swimming, saunas, hot yoga, or any excessive sweating. Showering is great, just not overdoing it.
If you think your tattoo has an infection, contact your artist and your physician immediately.
GENERIC HEALING WITH TEGADERM
The Tegaderm can be left on for 3-7 days. You may choose to take it off earlier if it is at all uncomfortable.
When ready to remove: wet the skin and gently peel away Tegaderm.
Please Note: You may experience a “sunburn” feel when removing the Tegaderm. This is normal and it will go away typically within an hour or two.
